We are looking for someone to join our consultancy team to help grow small businesses. Balloon finds high potential small businesses and provides loans (Kes. 500k to Kes. 3m) alongside consultancy support to help develop best practice sales, finance, operations etc. By combining investment with consultancy support, we help the best small businesses to grow and create good jobs and opportunities in their community.

Through this we will support a new generation of local entrepreneurs building the SMEs of tomorrow and changing lives through enterprise, not aid.

 Job Title: Junior Growth Consultant

Location: Nakuru, Kenya

 Role summary

The role’s key purpose is to create sustainable impact through offering entrepreneurs in the SME sector with business support, helping them to realize their full business potential and achieve long-term success. The Consultant delivers tangible value to the SME clients and by doing so, achieves financial and impact returns on his/her transactions. A secondary purpose is to develop and share within the Balloon Capital network knowledge and expertise in SME investment and support, including lessons learnt.

Primary Relationships

The position reports to the Senior Consultant. Within the organization, the position has primary working relationships with the in-country investment team. Externally, the Consultant works mostly with referral networks and clients.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessment of SME’s and identify areas of support in line with the best practices.
• Work with portfolio businesses to implement best in class financial processes, structures and controls; train and / or recruit any relevant staff in line with the business strategic plan.
• Support portfolio businesses across operational management including designing and implementing best in organizational structure & function, operational processes, HR, supply chain, QA&QC, regulatory compliance, sales & marketing strategies etc. and training and / or recruiting any relevant staff.
• Build strong and trusting relationships with entrepreneurs and establish successful working partnerships
• Collect performance and impact data according to Balloon’s requirements and time frames

Qualifications

• Business/ Finance related University Degree is preferable
• Over 3 years of technical knowledge & implementation in the SME development demonstrated by successful work experience in:
  • Financial: Financial processes structures and controls and;
  • Operational Management: Organizational structure & function, operational processes, HR, supply chain, QA & QC, regulatory compliance, sales & marketing etc.
• Sound analytical and organizational skills and ability to train and transfer of knowledge
• Willingness to participate in field activities
• Strong written and interpersonal communication skills with an ability to interact with a very broad spectrum of entrepreneurs.
• Ability to interact effectively with clients and stakeholders by acting professionally, responding to their requests and inquiries, delivering what is promised, and meeting deadlines.
• Advanced computer skills with ability to utilize charts, graphs, and other presentation techniques to simply communicate complex data and concepts.
• Ability to draft documents and reports that are concise, well-organized, and appropriately focused on most critical points that are relevant to the target audience.
• Ability to tailor explanations of Balloon’s value proposition to specific clients and share relevant information on industry practices.
